Charlotte Pridmore on The Spark: Why Women start businesses
I believe that most women start a business because they have a burning desire to put something they are passionate about into the world and change their life for the better, that’s certainly why I started mine. I was broke, bored and knew I was capable of more.
The idea is just the beginning, we immediately go into the ‘how’ and that keeps us busy. It’s exciting and challenging, we have to learn new things and get out of our ‘familiarity’ zone a lot. We are hard wired for growth and expansion but that isn’t always an easy path.
When dreams meet reality: The Fear Factor
We have big dreams for our business and we set exciting goals. But what no one tells you is that as soon as you speak that desire out loud, it will automatically activate your fear, limitations and doubt, ‘can I do this’, ‘will it work’ and potentially some negative ‘what if’s?’ What’s going on here is our brain and body, like the ‘familiar’. It’s the job of your brain and your nervous system to conserve energy and keep you safe. Not to make you rich, happy and successful. Here lies the challenge, I quickly realised that mindset was not enough, there was far more required. It’s not just about how you think, it’s who you believe yourself to be – Identity is everything.
IDENTITY: You Unconscious operating System
Your identity is like an unconscious operating system running your life and business. So to achieve the success you desire you have to first be willing to be honest about who is actually running the show and be open to letting that go and embody a new identity. This requires a death of the old and willingness to embrace the new. An Identity that can hold each level of success you desire. And this is not a ‘one and done’ thing. There is a phrase I heard years ago “Every level brings a new devil’ I have found that to be true.
Women and the weight of Programming
Women carry programming around power, money, visibility and success that aren’t even theirs. Family, cultural conditioning and experiences can keep women playing small when their soul is crying out for expansion. This can cause frustration and in the worst case can cause them to quit.
The Inner Game Of Success:
Success is an inner game first, it requires you to look at your own shadows, what you judge in others you judge in yourself, for example if you have any negative connotations to wealth and money, I guarantee you will never earn above what you feel is ‘safe’ to earn. We have to go on a ‘judgment detox’ in every area of our lives and business that is relevant to our success.
Following you desires: The bigger you
Ultimately I believe that if you desire it, that desires are already yours, your job while you are here having your human experience is to follow them. But know this, your desires are just the shiny carrot to move you forward to becoming who you came here to be and at the heart of that growth is your identity. To build a bigger life, whatever that means to you it’s going to require a bigger you.
What version of yourself are you currently being in your business, and what version do you need to become to reach your next level?
What inherited beliefs about money, success, or visibility might be keeping you playing smaller than your soul desires?
And my favourite question to ask when getting to what you REALLY want is this..
If you removed all fear and judgment, what would you create or pursue in your business right now?
