Sharon Founder of Lincs Holistic Wellness – The Power Of Connecting Back To Yourself To Reduce Stress & Anxiety

Do you often feel like you are just all over the place? There’s so much to do, so many things vying for your attention, so much to worry about that your stress and anxiety levels are close to being off the scale!  Does your head feel full whilst the rest of you feels drained and you don’t know how to fix it or where to turn?

There are many reasons you could feel this way in today’s crazy world but one of the main reasons is probably because you have become disconnected from yourself.  Your energies are scattered and you don’t know how to re-centre yourself and connect back to your true core, and life is tossing you around like small boat in a big stormy ocean.

I have been there and done that and it’s not much fun!

When you are constantly in this state it can have a damaging effect on your whole body so it is important for your own well-being to look at ways to connect back to yourself and bring down the feelings of stress and anxiety before you store up health problems for the future which could then require medication.

A healthy lifestyle with exercise and a nutritious diet are all good but you also need the tools to connect back to yourself to feel more grounded and in control of your life.

Below are a few simple things to try:

Mindfulness

This word has been thrown around a lot recently but it is actually very beneficial for reducing feelings of anxiety and helping you feel more present in your life. Taking time to pause and notice the present moment with your senses for just a few minutes refocuses your mind away from worrying thoughts and helps to bring you back to yourself.

Meditation

This ancient practice has become very popular in recent years and with good reason as it has so many benefits for mind, body and spirit.  When you learn how to sit and be still with yourself for a few minutes in a quiet space your body and mind have chance to relax and re-set to enable you to find some calm and connect back to you.  It allows you to listen to your inner voice more clearly which is something that most people have forgotten how to do in the noise and chaos of life.

Breathing

This is so simple and yet so powerful in bringing you back to yourself.  When stress is taking hold and starting to overwhelm you just pause, feel your feet on the ground and take a few slow deep belly breaths in through your nose and out through your nose or mouth. We tend to take quick, shallow breaths when we are in stress and this increases feelings of anxiety.

Grounding

Grounding has many benefits for our bodies, we need to be connected to the electromagnetic field of mother earth to be healthy but also to literally be grounded in our life.  Place your feet directly on the ground every day (without any form of footwear) and let some of your stress fall away to the earth.  Grounding helps to make you feel more calm, centered and connected and is particularly beneficial when done outdoors.

Yoga/Qi-gong

These practices have been around for thousands of years and have stood the test of time and are known as being mind, body and spirit practices. They have many benefits and help to bring you back into your body and connect you back to yourself instead of living in your head as you focus on your breathing and movement.

Reiki

This is more of a therapy than a quick practice but it is very powerful in removing energetic blockages and bringing your body and mind back into alignment and allowing you to connect back to yourself.  If you are feeling like you are disconnected from yourself and struggling with life and stress and anxiety issues then please give some of these things a try.  I know from personal experience how powerful and even transformative they can be.

Don’t you deserve this for yourself too?

In warmth
