Bernadette Sanders Shares How To Boost Your Immune System

I started InsideOut Drinks in 2018 due to the fact that I struggled with feeling run down and just not functioning normally after I’d been out for a tipple. My partner worked away in Spain at weekends, meaning our weekends together were on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and our Friday night out was on a Monday. (Not great when you have a desk job to get to the next day).

I thought to myself that there must be a way to protect your liver, and put nutrients inside your body to help it fight against nasties, being proactive rather than reactive. Protecting my body rather than trying to fix it once the damage had been done.

Here are my top tips to ensure you boost immunity and stay healthy this winter.

1. Look After Yourself From The Inside, Out.

Thinking about what you put into your body is so important. Your body is a living thing that needs to be fed the correct fuel to achieve optimal performance. (You wouldn’t put diesel in a petrol car would you)?

Experts believe that vitamins and minerals are better absorbed from dietary intake rather than supplements, so ensuring you have a healthy, balanced diet is key to ensuring your immune system is in ‘tip-top’ nick.

2. Hydrate!

Everyone knows how important water is to our body’s wellbeing, but it also plays a huge part in ensuring your body’s immunity is top-notch. Lymph is a fluid that transports infection-fighting immune cells around the body, it’s made up mainly of water, so if you are dehydrated, the flow of lymph slows down, leading to an impaired immune system. Keep hydrated, keep your body functioning at its best.

3. Sleep

It doesn’t seem like a hard one but loads of important body functions happen when you’re getting your ZZZs. Did you know that your body actually creates important infection-fighting molecules while you’re in the land of nod? Making sure you get enough rest will give your body the time to fulfil all the necessary processes it needs to make sure your immune system is fully set for the day ahead.

4. Exercise

Exercise helps boost your immunity in several different ways. Firstly, it de-stresses you. During periods of chronic stress, your body releases a stress response, which actually suppresses your immune system, therefore increasing your risk of infection.

Secondly, exercise gets your body pumping, boosting overall circulation, making it easier for immune cells and other infection-fighting molecules to move around your body to where they’re needed most.
